Last week we had the pleasure of experiencing Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We planned our trip through Apple Vacations, with Frontier flights and transfers provided by Amstar. In this post we’ll be sharing our experiences and review of Secrets Cap Cana resort.
Arrival Experience at Secrets Cap Cana
From the moment we met our Amstar guide and driver, everything was so easy and smooth. We really enjoyed a luxurious experience at Secrets! On our way to the resort, they gave us bottled water and a welcome letter, along with information about tours and excursions that are available in Punta Cana.
When we arrived at the resort, they welcomed us and gave us wet towels and champagne. Since we were staying in a preferred club room, we were then escorted to the club lounge to check in. After we checked in, our butler arrived to welcome us to the resort and take us to our room.
Our Room at Secrets Cap Cana
We were staying in a preferred club Junior Suite with an ocean view. Everything about the room was perfect, and we absolutely loved it! The room had a fabulous balcony with a view overlooking the main pool and the ocean. On the balcony, we had a nice tub and comfortable seating. We spent plenty of time sitting (and napping) out there, enjoying the weather and view.
Inside the room was a seating area, a very comfortable king size bed and a large TV. There was also mini bar with complimentary drinks and snacks! The bathroom had double sinks, a large mirror, a separate room with the toilet and an amazing shower. The large shower had a beautiful stone design, a glass door and two rain shower heads. Along with the balcony, the shower was probably are favorite part of the room.
Preferred Club at Secrets Cap Cana
By staying in a preferred club room, we had access to the club lounge as well as a preferred club pool, exclusive beach area and access to the poolside restaurant, Rosewater. For being preferred club, our room had an upgraded mini bar (snacks, sodas, water, juice and beer) and upgraded amenities. The upgraded amenities that are included in the club rooms were wonderful. They provided everything from toothpaste to shoe polish to razors and shaving cream.
Of course, the main perk is having a butler whose job is to make sure you are having an amazing time and ensure everything is going smoothly. Some people may get more use out of a butler than others. Our butler welcomed us to the resort and showed us to our room on the first day. Throughout our stay, he checked in with us (by text) every day to see if we needed anything. On the last day, he took care of arranging for bell services to collect our luggage. Personally, we are very self-sufficient and know we did not take full advantage of having a butler. He would have done other things for us had we asked him for anything, and it was nice to know that if we ever needed something we could easily text him.
Review of the Secrets Cap Cana Resort
The resort is absolutely beautiful, well-designed and elegantly appointed. The color scheme is lovely and has a luxurious feeling while still keeping in touch with the natural elements. The layout of the resort is easy to navigate and it was easy to get around. By the second day, we felt very comfortable and knew where everything was. Lobby
The open-air lobby is gorgeous, with plenty of comfortable seating areas as well as a lobby bar and coffee shop. The check-in desks in the lobby are very unobtrusive and did not take away from the relaxing atmosphere. Similarly, there is a good selection of shops but they are in a location that does not detract from the luxuriousness of the lobby. There is a gorgeous view of the resort and a waterway running the entire length of the lobby. They even had live music playing at certain times. We actually enjoyed just coming to sit in the lobby to relax!
Pools
The pools at the resort are wonderful. The resort has one large main pool and a preferred club pool. The main pool is more active. It has a swim-up bar and activities like water volleyball or water zumba classes taking place at different times throughout the day. Infinity edges divide the pool into multiple sections. The outer edge (towards the beach) had a quieter atmosphere despite being all one large pool. You could definitely still enjoy a relaxing swim time at this pool if you don’t have access to the preferred club pool.
The preferred club pool did have a more relaxing and quieter atmosphere, and was less crowded than the main pool. Similar to the main pool, it was divided into a few sections with infinity edges. We really enjoyed both pools and would spend time at both depending on what type of atmosphere we were looking for. Each pool also has a large whirlpool! The whirlpools are in a secluded area surrounded by plants, so they feel very private. We would have liked if the whirlpool was more of a hot tub but other than that, the temperatures of all the pools was great.
Beach
Secrets Cap Cana is located on Juanillo Beach in the gated community of Cap Cana. The beach has nice sand and is soft enough to walk on barefoot. The ocean was swimmable and warm, and they did have kayaks and paddleboards available for use (complimentary). The biggest downside at the beach was the constant seaweed washing up on the shore. They worked throughout the day clearing it but the seaweed did continue to pile up. This made the beach fall short of the white sand beach most people dream of. Overall, be aware of the seaweed before you book so you are not disappointed, but we were still able to enjoy the beach despite it! On the beach, the resort had plenty of comfortable chairs as well as unique, instagrammable seating. We loved the daybeds, hammocks and other features on the beach to relax on.
Dining + Restaurants
Overall, we were satisfied with the quality of food and pleased with the variety of restaurants. There was a good number of restaurants that offered a variety of different cuisines, including French, Italian, Seafood, Mexican and Asian restaurants. The Market Cafe buffet was fabulous and offered great selection for breakfast and lunch! Our favorite restaurants were the Seaside Grill, Bordeaux (French Restaurant), the Market Cafe and El Patio, the Mexican restaurant. They also had several poolside restaurants open for lunch during the day, including the club-exclusive one at the preferred club pool.
In-Room Dining is also available, and you can even order using a tablet that is provided in your room! We ordered late night room service a couple of times, plus breakfast in bed one day and everything we got from room service was great. For the most part, the food was good and we enjoyed most of the restaurants we tried!
Overall Experience
We would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for an adults-only resort! The resort is beautifully designed, luxurious, clean and safe. The food and service were great, the amenities were amazing and our room was wonderful. This is the perfect place for a honeymoon, anniversary or romantic getaway. It would also be great for a group of couples traveling together or even a getaway with friends. We hope this review is helpful if you are considering a visit to Secrets Cap Cana.
