The 50th anniversary celebration for the Walt Disney World Resort kicks off in just 2 weeks! It’s hard to believe after all this hype and counting down the days – it’s almost here. The 50th anniversary is on October 1, but the celebration and festivities will continue for 18 months. That gives you plenty of time to visit during the celebration, even if you haven’t started planning yet! There’s going to be so much fun and excitement during this time, and we can’t wait to celebrate. Disney is bringing so many new things to the parks in honor of this special occasion; here are the 5 things we’re looking forward to the most!
Characters in EARidescent Costumes
Some of our favorite Disney friends – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale – will don all new outfits in honor of the 50th anniversary. These costumes will match the celebrations EARidescent theme, a shimmering blue-purple-gold color. We can’t wait to see the characters sporting these new looks throughout the parks!
Disney Fab 50 Character Collection
Throughout the parks, Disney has chosen 50 iconic characters to be a part of the Fab 50 Character Collection. These 50 beloved characters have been cast in gold and placed around the parks to find! This is a special way to spread the magic of the Disney World 50th anniversary celebration throughout all 4 parks. It will also be a fun game to try and spot them all.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
A new ride is coming to Epcot on October 1 – Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure! This is one of our favorite rides at Disneyland Paris, so we’re thrilled to have it come to Epcot. This trackless 4D dark ride shrinks Guests to the size of a rat and takes you through Gusteau’s kitchen and the city of Paris. This ride will use a virtual queue system (like the one currently used for Rise of the Resistance). It will also be available with the new Lightning Lane system.
Beacons of Magic
The 4 Disney World park icons – Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth, Tower of Terror and the Tree of Life – will become ‘Beacons of Magic’ each night. These park icons will come to life, glittering and shining with EARidescent magic throughout the 18 month celebration. We’ve loved when Disney has lit up the park icons in the past, so we are excited to see how they use technology to create stunning projections!
3 New Shows
The element of the celebration we are MOST excited for are the addition of 3 new shows around the parks. In Epcot, the long-awaited Harmonious is a new fireworks spectacular. This show will use innovative technology, fountains and pyrotechnics to tell a story about music bringing people together. In Animal Kingdom, a new daytime show called Kite Tails will bring popular Disney characters and animals to life through elaborate 3-dimensional kites. Finally, at Magic Kingdom, another new fireworks spectacular will take Guests on a journey into a world of magic. This new show will light up not only the sky and Cinderella Castle, but for the first time ever, immersive projections will continue down Main Street, U.S.A.
