When considering destinations for a post-wedding vacation, many people consider a Walt Disney World Honeymoon. It is the most magical place on Earth, after all! If you’re planning a honeymoon at Walt Disney World, be sure to check out our top 6 tips for planning the perfect, magical honeymoon!
1. Splurge on your resort so you can enjoy a luxurious experience during your honeymoon!
For folks going to Walt Disney World who will be spending most of their time in the parks, staying at an off-property hotel or a value level resort may be a great option. It’s a great way to do Disney on a budget! You may not want to spend much money on your resort if you’re only going to be there to sleep. This is definitely true if you plan to spend most of your time in the parks.
However, if you’ll be spending your honeymoon at Disney World then we recommend splurging more than usual on your resort. Your honeymoon is a special occasion, plus you’ll be spending more time in your room than you would on an average vacation. If you normally stay at value resorts, why not try a moderate resort like Port Orleans Riverside? If you’re generally a moderate-resort guest, why not try a deluxe resort? The Polynesian is perfect for a tropical, relaxing vibe on your honeymoon! For an even higher level of luxury, why not try staying club level, or staying at the Four Seasons? There are so many options available that you really can’t go wrong!
Whatever ‘luxury’ means to you, if there’s ever a time to splurge for it then it’s your honeymoon!
2. Take advantage of Disney’s amazing dining scene and try out some wonderful restaurants!
Disney has an amazing selection of restaurants to choose from. Some restaurants are known for their delicious food and others for their unique themes or atmospheres. Whatever restaurants suit your style, set aside a few evenings on your honeymoon to enjoy a romantic dinner out.
For an upscale atmosphere, try California Grill or Narcoosee’s. For a retro date night experience, why not check out Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater? You can even try dining around the world at Epcot’s World Showcase. Here, each country’s pavilion is home to wonderful restaurants serving cuisine from countries around the world. Some of our favorites are Le Cellier (Canada), Monsieur Paul (France) and Via Napoli (Italy). With so many options to choose from, why not use your honeymoon as an opportunity to take a culinary adventure through Disney World! Plus, you’ll enjoy a romantic date night out – it’s a win-win!
3. Take lots of photos so you can always remember your Walt Disney World honeymoon!
Your honeymoon is a celebration of a very special time in your life. Furthermore, it’s an experience you’ll look back on for years to come. Years from now, when your kids ask about your wedding you might regret it if you aren’t able to show them a few photos from your magical honeymoon! Make sure you bring a camera along (or your phone) to capture those special moments you want to remember forever.
One great idea is to purchase Disney’s Memory Maker! This is a service Disney offers that gives you unlimited downloads of all your Photopass photos taken throughout your trip. When you’re traveling just the two of you it can be hard to get photos together, especially if you aren’t comfortable asking a stranger to take your picture. Disney’s Memory Maker solves this problem for you. Disney has photographers who will snap your photo in iconic locations throughout all four parks. Plus, Magic Shots, character greetings and ride photos are all included, too. Be sure to check out our post about Memory Maker to read our tips for getting the best vacation photos!

4. Dress for the occasion – it’s only your honeymoon once!
Your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so you’ll want to make sure everyone knows why you’re celebrating! There are so few opportunities in life to wear matching bride/groom or husband/wife shirts. Even if you feel silly, we highly recommend going all out and letting everyone know you’re on your honeymoon. When cast members and even fellow guests see that you are celebrating, they will usually go out of their way to congratulate you, which just makes you feel special! Whether it’s matching shirts, mouse ears, MagicBands or something else, do whatever feels right for you as a couple.
If you’re looking for a free alternative that still lets everyone know you’re celebrating, make sure to stop by guest services on the first day of your honeymoon and pick up a celebration button. They give these out for free and it’s a great way to let everyone know you’re on your honeymoon. It also makes for a great keepsake from your Walt Disney World honeymoon too!
5. Enjoy a special view of the fireworks for a romantic evening!
There’s something about fireworks that are just super romantic. If you’ve seen Disney’s fireworks before then you know you are in for a treat – nobody does fireworks quite like Disney! Fireworks are the perfect way to end a day at Disney, so make sure you plan to see each fireworks show at least once during your trip! For an extra special occasion like your honeymoon, why not do something special to view the fireworks?
- Dining at California Grill restaurant at the Contemporary will afford you a stunning view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks show, Happily Ever After.
- Did you know Disney even has firework cruises on the lagoon now? You could be watching the Happily Ever After fireworks show from your own private boat.
- A Fireworks Dessert Party is also always a good idea! They offer these fun events at multiple parks, so make sure you check out what’s available during your dates.
6. Don’t overplan – give yourself plenty of time to take it easy and relax on your Walt Disney World honeymoon!
With so much to see and do at Walt Disney World, it’s easy to want to try and do it all. Many people who spend a vacation at Disney World come home feeling like they need a vacation! You wouldn’t want to feel that way on your honeymoon, so don’t make too many plans for yourself. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to relax and take it easy with your new spouse! Whether that means sleeping in, or heading to the parks early but then heading back to your resort for a leisurely afternoon, do whatever will work best for you!
For our Walt Disney World honeymoon, we scheduled our Fastpasses for late morning so we wouldn’t have to get up early and rush to the parks. After using our pre-planned Fastpasses, we would do a couple more rides or spend some time enjoying the atmosphere at the parks. Then, we would then spend most of the afternoon relaxing back at our resort pool!
After the stress of a wedding, relaxing at the pool together was the perfect way to spend our honeymoon! Not to mention, the crazy Florida heat and crowds make the afternoon a perfect time to enjoy some relaxation. In the evenings we would head out for a nice dinner and enjoy an evening in the parks, before finishing off the day with fireworks. While this may not be the perfect schedule for everyone, it’s a great starting point to determine what will work for you and how you can enjoy some relaxing on your Walt Disney World honeymoon!
