During our recent visit to Disney World, we stayed at the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Since the main resort lodge isn’t open, guests who want to stay at this resort need to book either the Boulder Ridge Villas or the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins in order to stay here. While we’ve stayed in the Boulder Ridge section before, this was our first time staying at Copper Creek. In this post, we’ll be sharing all about the resort, our room and why we highly recommend this option for your next visit to Disney World!
Boulder Ridge vs. Copper Creek at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
You may have heard these terms before and been unsure what they mean. It is definitely a bit complicated if you aren’t familiar with them! Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is one of Disney’s Deluxe Resort properties. At Wilderness Lodge, there are also two Disney Vacation Club (DVC) properties, which Disney sells as their ‘Deluxe Villas’ room category. These two DVC properties, Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek, share all the amenities of the Wilderness Lodge.
The Boulder Ridge Villas were originally called The Villas at Wilderness Lodge, and are located in a separate building adjacent to the main lodge. In 2016, the name was changed to Boulder Ridge when Disney was opening up Copper Creek. Unlike Boulder Ridge, the new Copper Creek villas are located in a wing of the main building. In addition, they also added the Copper Creek Cabins which are private waterfront accommodations.
Room Types at Copper Creek at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Copper Creek has Deluxe Studios, Cabins, and 1-, 2- and 3-Bedroom Villas. Aside from the Cabins, the Copper Creek villas are located within the main building of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The most affordable option is the Deluxe Studio, which has a small kitchenette and can sleep up to 4 guests. The Deluxe Studios have 1 queen bed and 1 queen-size sleeper sofa. This option is the room type we stayed in, and it was the perfect layout for a couple.
The Cabins have 2 bedrooms and are located right at the waterfront with views of Bay Lake. They features a full kitchen with an island as well as a private porch with a hot tub. The Cabins can sleep up to 8 guests and would be a perfect option for a special occasion!
The villas are great options for families since they have more space. All the villas have a full kitchen and a washer/dryer, which make them perfect for longer stays. The main living area has a dining table and a sleeper sofa (queen size). The first bedroom has a King Bed (if you are in a 1-Bedroom Villa, this will be the only bedroom). Going up to the 2-Bedroom adds a second bedroom with 2 Queen Beds, and likewise a 3-Bedroom Villa would add another bedroom, also with 2 Queen Beds. This means the 1-Bedroom Villa can sleep up to 4 guests, the 2-Bedroom up to 8 guests and the 3-Bedroom villa up to 12 guests.
Note: the 3-Bedroom Villa is also called a Grand Villa
Design & Theme
Wilderness Lodge is known for it’s rustic lodge theme. The Copper Creek Villas continue this theme but in a more modern fashion. Villas are inspired by modern rustic touches and railroad themes. Compared to the rest of the resort (Wilderness Lodge and Boulder Ridge Villas), Copper Creek has more of a Pacific Northwest vibe to it and the style is definitely a bit more hip. If you prefer classic rustic style, you may prefer the theming of Boulder Ridge or the resort’s standard rooms. For us though, this room was the perfect blend between modern and nature-inspired!
Disney’s Copper Creek Villas Resort Amenities
Since Copper Creek is part of Wilderness Lodge, guests here can enjoy all of the resort’s amenities! This includes the lobby, pool areas, gift shop, restaurants and transportation services. Wilderness Lodge is one of our favorite resorts, so we love that by staying at Copper Creek we get to enjoy this beautiful resort.
Pool Areas
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge has 2 pool areas to choose from. The main Copper Creek Springs Pool are is located right in the center of the resort, just off the lobby and is the closest pool area to the Copper Creek Villas. Our Deluxe Studio room actually had a balcony that overlooked this pool area. The Copper Creek Springs Pool has a water slide, splash play area for the kids and hot and cold whirlpool spas.
The second pool area, Boulder Ridge Cove Pool offers a quieter option. With zero-depth entry and a large whirlpool spa, this pool area is a great oasis. Our main complaint with this pool was that the whirlpool spa was not hot enough (not cold, but lukewarm). For this reason, we spent most of our time at the Copper Creek Springs Pool hot whirlpool spa, even though it is much smaller.
Restaurants
Wilderness Lodge is home to some great restaurant options! The Roaring Fork offers a great casual quick-service option, while several table service options are also available. Whispering Canyon Cafe, located in the lobby, is a fun and lively choice with great all-you-can-eat skillets. The resort is also home to Artist Point, a character meal with Snow White and friends, although this restaurant is not currently available during the phased reopening. The newest addition to the resort’s dining options is Geyser Point Bar & Grill. This waterfront grill is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat or a drink as you enjoy a sunset view over Bay Lake. Finally, Territory Lounge offers bar service and appetizers.
Transportation
From Wilderness Lodge, guests can access Disney’s Magic Kingdom by water taxi. The boat dock, located just past Copper Creek Springs Pool, also usually offers transportation to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. We love having this boat access to Magic Kingdom, it makes it quick and easy to get there and back!
In addition to the boats, complimentary bus transportation is also available to the other theme parks and Disney Springs. This makes it convenient for you to get anywhere on Disney property, even if you don’t have your own vehicle. If you do have your own vehicle though, you also can take advantage of free parking at each of the theme parks!
Phased Reopening/COVID-19 Updates
With all the changes going on at Disney World (and in the world in general!), some changes have come to Wilderness Lodge. COVID-19 safety protocols are in place throughout the resort. For example, masks are required in all public spaces except when eating, drinking or swimming. Online check in is being strongly encouraged so that guests can proceed directly to their rooms upon arrival without having to visit the front desk. As is the case throughout Disney World, some restaurants are unavailable while others require mobile ordering. Additionally, capacity is limited in places like elevators and boat transportation to the parks. These are just a few examples. Be sure to visit Disney’s Know Before You Go webpage or read our recent blog posts for all the latest information about the phased reopening!
Conclusion
Overall, we were really pleasantly surprised with our stay at Copper Creek! We loved both the design and the practical layout of our room, as well as the theme and amenities of Wilderness Lodge. On future visits, we would definitely choose to stay here again. After experiencing it for ourselves, Disney’s Copper Creek Villas definitely ranks as one of our favorite places to stay at Walt Disney World!
