Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Guide

We had the pleasure of experiencing a night of fun at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party earlier this fall, and we were excited to put this guide together for you! From the parades, fireworks and shows, the trick-or-treating, the costumes and rides, there was so much to see and do! The party definitely didn’t feel long enough. If you asked me as we walked out if I wanted to go again the next day, it would have been a wholehearted “yes”! We’ve broken down our experience in this guide and will talk about the different aspects of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and what we enjoyed the most!

About Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

In case you aren’t familiar, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a separately-ticketed event that happens at Magic Kingdom on select nights. If you have a ticket to the Halloween party, you will be able to enter the park at 4:00 PM. The party begins at 7:00 PM and continues until midnight. At 7:00 PM when the party starts, any guests who were there for the day but do not have a ticket for the Halloween party will have to leave. Overall, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party is a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit, enjoy special attractions and entertainment and have a spook-tacular time!

Costumes at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Dressing up for this event is totally optional, however it can be a ton of fun and a great way to get into the Halloween spirit! This year, Josh and I decided to go all out with our costumes. We dressed as Aladdin and Jasmine. We bought our costumes from Amazon pretty last-minute and are so glad we decided to go for it! These costumes were affordable and easy, and we got a lot of compliments on them. Plenty of adorable children thought we were the real Aladdin and Jasmine, which was really cute! During the Boo-to-You parade, Aladdin and Jasmine themselves even noticed us and pointed us out. We’d definitely recommend getting costumes if you decide to go to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary, it really added to the fun of the event!

Here are the costumes we purchased from Amazon, in case any of you are planning to be Aladdin or Jasmine, too!

If you don’t want to dress up, don’t worry. It is absolutely optional, and you won’t be the only one not dressed up. We went very early in the season, and only about 25-30% of people were wearing costumes. The closer you go to Halloween the more people I would expect to see wearing costumes, so keep that in mind. We would highly recommend getting costumes since it really adds to the fun spirit of the festivities!  However, don’t let not having a costume stop you from going, as you’ll still have a blast and you won’t be the only one not dressed up.

Rides at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, several rides have a ‘Halloween overlay’. This means there is a special Halloween-themed version of the ride that is only available during the party! Some are definitely must-dos, while others are just a bit different from the regular ride. Rides with a Halloween overlay are:

  • Mad Tea Party – Halloween music and lighting have been added to the ride.
  • “Deep Space” Mountain – the lights have been turned off and the music is different, so riding this special version of Space Mountain is a must!
  • Pirates of the Caribbean – live actors have been added to the ride, which is a fun addition but not an extreme difference to the normal ride.
  • Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor – this show has been turned into a trick-or-treat station along with the show. Like the regular attraction, a monster does stand-up comedy but with a Halloween angle.

Many of the other park rides are open and running during the party, too. For the regular (non-overlay) rides, there will generally be shorter lines than there are during the day. However, this is probably not the best time to be doing regular rides, since the party is not long enough to experience everything and you definitely don’t want to miss out on all the special Halloween festivities!

Candy + Food at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Trick-or-Treating

There’s something special about trick-or-treating in the Magic Kingdom! Candy stations are set up around the park, and bags are provided. As you visit the different stations you will fill your bag(s) with plenty of delicious candy, and they are very generous with the treats! We each filled a bag and left with heaps of candy which lasted us over a month after we got home.

Special Party Treats

While the candy from trick-or-treating is all free, of course many guests still want to buy snacks and beverages, too! There are a variety of special items available for purchase at different places throughout the park. Some of the popular ones are Jack and Sally Cake Push-Pops (stands near Cinderella’s Castle), Headless Horseman Cheesecake (Sleepy Hollow) and the Pumpkin Spice Milkshake (Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies). There are plenty of other Halloween treats as well, so check out this post from Disney Parks blog if you’re interested in seeing all the Halloween treats!

Character Meet and Greets at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

If you love character meet and greets, this will probably be a highlight of the party for you! This event is known for having plenty of unique characters who aren’t available to meet at other times (or in costumes they aren’t typically wearing). One of the most popular is Sally and Jack from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Other popular characters include the Seven Dwarfs, Stitch dressed as Elvis, Pooh and friends, and all the classic characters in their Halloween costumes. Depending on the crowd levels on a particular night, some of these lines can get extremely long. If you know you want to meet Jack and Sally or another popular character, make sure you arrive early, get in line as soon as you can and be prepared to wait. This is the highlight of the event for many guests!

In addition to the scheduled character meet and greets, you may also find characters roaming around or you can party with them at one of the several character dance parties that take place throughout the night.

Special Shows, Parades and Fireworks at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Finally, the special shows, parades and fireworks are one of the main events of the night, and sure to be a highlight of your evening! Here is our guide to the main special events at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party:

Boo-to-You Parade

Boo to You Parade

The Boo-to-You Parade happens twice during the party and lasts about 16 minutes. In my opinion, this parade is a must-do at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary! As someone who doesn’t typically enjoy parades, I was really impressed and enjoyed this parade a lot. There was awesome Halloween-themed floats, catchy music and lots of unique characters! The Gravediggers and the Bride from the Haunted Mansion were a great spooky touch, and the music will be stuck in your head for days.

Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

Another popular part of the party is the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. This show takes place 3 or 4 times throughout the night, depending on the day. This show features a host of villains and is hosted by the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus. The final show is a 12:00 AM (right when most other things are closing) so this is a great time to watch this show before leaving for the night!

Mickey’s Not So Spooky Spectacular

Finally, the other not-to-be-missed show is Mickey’s Not So Spooky Spectacular – the fireworks show! This fireworks show is new this year (replacing Hallowishes) and is absolutely amazing. Happening only once a night, you will want to make sure you see this show! The show is hosted by Jack Skellington and features Mickey and the gang as they go trick-or-treating. Incredible projections on the castle accompany the fireworks, and it’s really incredible to see. This was definitely one of the highlights of the Halloween party for me!

Conclusion

As you can see, there is so much to see and do at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! With shows, rides, characters and trick-or-treating, you really have to choose your favorites since it would be impossible to do it all. The good news is that no matter what you choose to do, you’re sure to have an absolute blast! We had such a fun time at the Halloween party and we would 100% recommend it for anyone looking for a spook-tacular night out. We hope this guide helps you in planning an amazing and fun night out at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!
