We met on a Disney Cruise. He proposed at Aulani. And we got married on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. We really have a Disney love story! You’ve been asking for more details about our story, so today we’re sharing more about our Aulani Proposal. Here is our engagement story!
Christmas in Hawaii
For Christmas 2017, we went to Hawaii with family to spend the holiday at Aulani, Disney’s beautiful resort. Josh had been before, but this was my first time visiting Aulani and also my first time in Hawaii. It was absolutely beautiful and the entire trip was amazing!
From the amazing pools to the wonderful dining option and the amazing excursions, the entire trip was amazing. This resort is gorgeous and there is so much to do both at the resort and around the island! One thing we enjoyed was that every night at sunset, the Aulani photographers would be down on the beach. Since we love sunsets and wanted lots of memories from this trip, we would go down to the beach each evening and get our photo taken.
How He Asked
On Christmas Eve, we went down to the beach again to have photos taken at sunset by the resort photographers. This time, we arrived a little early, with the sun not quite ready to set yet. After a few photos, Josh suggested we go out to a little peninsula (just a short walk down the beach) before returning to the beach for more photos during the sunset.
After taking a few pictures of the resort and enjoying the beautiful scenery, Josh started taking pictures of me. He then told me he would prop his phone against a rock and use the timer feature. That way, he could get into the photo with me. After a couple of test runs, he set the phone on video rather than photo and perfectly captured the moment when he got down on one knee!
After an excited “YES”, we walked back to the beach and had more photos taken. Our first as an engaged couple! Later than night, Josh had arranged a romantic dinner at ‘Ama ‘Ama, a beautiful open air restaurant on the beach. It was a perfect, magical way to spend Christmas Eve!
So there you have it! That’s the story of our Aulani proposal and how we got engaged in Hawaii. For us, Aulani was the perfect setting for Josh to propose. Disney, travel and Christmas are three of my favorite things, so Josh chose the perfect time and place! This is a trip and memory that we’ll treasure forever.
